Injury Prevention Program
At Palisades Rehab, we believe in educating patients about how to properly use their body during daily activities and exercise programs—so they can enjoy life, injury-free. Our industry-leading therapists design one-on-one, customized treatment plans to reduce injury risk and enhance sports performance.
Injury screenings and Annual PT Check-Ups include an evaluation of muscle strength, joint mobility, flexibility, posture and gait. This information is then used by Palisades’ therapists to develop a personalized injury prevention program that addresses an individual’s body imbalances, strength limitations and range of motion deficits.
Palisades Rehab also offers a range of injury prevention classes and group programs, including:
Pitching Performance Program
Palisades’ Pitching Performance program is designed to prevent injury and achieve maximum pitching performance for pitchers at all levels. Overuse injuries are common among pitchers of all ages, from the young student/travel league athlete to the high school/college athlete and the adult league player, as well! Which one are you? Our team of expert physical therapists and strength and conditioning specialists can assess injury risk through musculoskeletal evaluation and functional movement screens. The course also offers throwing and pitching mechanic evaluation to identify factors that can lead to injury and performance deficits, and can be tailored to the individual athlete and to groups. Coaches should call today!
Injury Prevention for the Female Athlete
Learn why the female athlete is more prone to non-contact lower extremity injuries. Are you in a high risk category? Discover how to prevent injury and promote a healthy athletic career. A study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine (August 2008) evaluated outcomes of NCAA Division 1 female soccer players who performed the Prevent Injury, Enhance Performance (PEP) program, designed by physical therapists at Santa Monica (CA) Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Group. Those who performed the PEP program had an overall ACL injury rate 41 percent lower than a group of female athletes who did their regular warm-up. This was one of the largest studies conducted in the NCAA, with 1,435 athletes participating.
Awareness through Movement: The Feldenkrais Method
Palisades Rehab is the first Bergen County facility to promote weekly “Awareness through Movement” classes in the Feldenkrais method, which is hugely popular in NYC, California and Europe. This mind-body exercise approach aims to increase ease and range of motion, improve flexibility and coordination, and facilitate graceful, efficient movement.
Feldenkrais can ease back and joint pain caused by the effects of multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease and stroke. It’s also widely used by dancers, athletes and performers who wish to gain better body awareness.
Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Method
The APPI Pilates Method is designed specifically for physiotherapists, and is used as a tool to retrain correct use of the multifidus (a small, powerful muscle supporting the spine), along with the transverse abdominus muscles and pelvic floor muscles. These “core” muscles are activated during a series of mat-based exercises, which are modifiable to any fitness level. While Australian Physiotherapy Pilates is a helpful discipline for any age and body type, it is especially useful for correcting muscle imbalance, motor relearning and abdominal/low back weakness.
